Kendall College of Art and Design / Ferris State University
Grand Rapids, MI

When Kendall College joined forces with the art program of Ferris State University, new signage was needed at the downtown Grand Rapids campus to reflect the new affiliation.

In order to maintain the well established identities of both Ferris and Kendall, the decisiion was made to incorporate both school logos into the signage program and have them displayed together, or in a uniform way, to convey the new connection.

The monumnet sign is a simple fabricated aluminum cabinet with a subtle radius curve to the face. The graphics are routed out and backed with black/white plexiglas that appears black during the day but illuminates white at night. The cabinet is mounted to a concrete wall with a radus that matches the sign face.

Wall signage for the campus includes a set of back-lit neon letters, two sets of non-illuminated letters with large logo graphics painted directly onto the brick walls of the building, and canvas banners which line one side of the building alternatly displaying the two school names.
