New signs were up for Opening Day of the
2002 season at Fifth Third Ballpark. A new name and a new logo for
the home of the West Michigan Whitecaps initiated the construction
of new signage for the ballpark.
The main identification sign stands 68
feet tall and weighs 14,000 pounds. The sign, which is located just
off the highway, has an electronic message center to flash information
to travellers of upcoming games and events at the ballpark.

Both
the main pylon sign and the new scoreboard sign are fabricated out
of aluminum in the custom shape of the ballpark's new logo. The logo
and letters on the signs are individually fabricated and illuminated
with exposed red and white neon. Flagpoles with red waving flags are
mounted to the top of both signs adding a nostaligic all-american
baseball touch.

The new logo appears throughout the
ballpark in non-illuminated versions along with fabricated letters
and a painted billboard advertising the park's name.
