The design for this sign was inspired by the building architect, Alden Dow. Several characteristics of his work were incorporated, including the merging of earth and structure, the suggestion of motion and the use of repetitive geometric shapes and angles. The red color also reflects Alden Dow's use of color within the environment.

The cabinets are built of simple extrusions with aluminum faces and routed out, pushed through copy, while one cabinet incorporates a White Way electronic message center. The uniqueness of this sign is in how the individual cabinets are mounted in relationship to each other, to the ground, and to the road.

Detailed site surveys were done and a small model was built to scale to determine the exact spacing and angles required for best legibility. Because of the unique mounting angles, special attention was paid to engineering support structures and mounting details.
